On April 25, 2025, a Polish-Japanese seminar entitled Exploring the Dimensions of Intercultural Communication was held in cooperation with the Institute of Asian Cultural Studies (IACS) at the International Christian University in Tokyo. The event accompanied the Days of Polish Science and Education at the EXPO 2025 World Expo in Osaka (22-26.04) and was carried out in hybrid mode, as part of the Asia IACS Forum meetings. The event was held under the honorary patronage of the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken) inKyoto.
The seminar was attended by UW Vice-Rector Prof. Sambor Grucza, who delivered a lecture entitled Shaping the Future. 4EU+ Alliance – an Example of a New Dimension of Academic Collaboration and Cooperation in Europe. In turn, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Agata Bareja-Starzyńska, PhD, presented a paper on Intercultural Dialogue and Mutual Understanding as Part of Global Citizenship Education. The speech of the Japanese scholar, Dr. Iwona Kordzińska-Nawrocka, on the other hand, concerned issues of cultural transfer on the basis of Polish translations of Japanese literature (Cultural Transfer of Japanese Literature in Poland).
Participants in the seminar from the Japanese side were Professor Sonoyama Senri, Director of the Institute of Asian Cultural Studies (ICU), in addition to Professor Emeritus of Shinshu University, Watanabe Hideo, and Professor Nakamaru Takafumi of the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken, Kyoto). The moderator of the panel discussion was Professor Komatsu Yasuhiko of Aoyama Gakuin University.
The scientific meetings held in Japan by the UW delegation are an integral part of the project ‘University of Warsaw towards the Challenges of the Modern World. Polish-Japanese Partnership for Sustainable Development’. The topics of the following conferences and lectures scheduled for July 2025 will concern security in the broadest sense, the issue of sustainable development, the idea of Society 5.0 and others. This project has been supported by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange under the International Scientific Event at the World EXPO 2025 in Osaka, Kansai (Agreement No. BPI/OSA/2024/1/00020/DEC/01).
